Holiday Countdown & Beauty Prep

by - Friday, August 08, 2014

So we have started the countdown, less than 2 weeks!!
I have thought about what im taking and began placing any last minute online orders for more clothes.
I have thought about the essentials such as suncream, after sun, moisturiser etc.
Now it's time to think about me! I need to think about prepping my body for the 35degree heat that awaits me in Turkey.

1. Exfoliate
It's the Golden Rule to keep your holiday glow!

It's time to get rid of the dull dry skin and being out the bright new skin ready for the sunshine. Using a body scrub or body polish is the best way to do this and using a exfoliating glove or brush also has the added benefit of improving and boosting circulation which also brightens your skin. I always keep a exfoliating glove in the shower and aim to use 3 times a week, even if I just use it with normal shower gel. My boyfriend has always commented on my smooth skin and that's my secret, regular exfoliating.

I tend to use the Body Shop Polish (200ml for £10) or Scrub (200ml for £12.50) for a full exfoliating session as they smell delicious and they aren't harsh on my skin.

2. Moisturise

Feed your body now with moisture to keep soft and dry free which in the long run will prolong your tan.
If you have extremely dry skin I recommend the BEAUTIFYING OIL. It's £9.00 for a 100ml bottle so a little pricey but well worth it. I brought it as had really dry legs just before we got the nice weather and no matter how much moisturiser I used it didn't work. After a week of using the oil I noticed a massive difference and was then happy to expose my legs to the world.

3. Keep hydrated

Drink plenty of water on the run up to holiday. Not only is this healthy to do but also hydrates your skin from the inside.

4. Hair

Try to avoid getting highlights done before you go. I went to see my hairdresser at the weekend as was due to get my roots done next week but she said they weren't actually that bad and the sun would lighten my hair anyway. If she was to put a colour on it would only lift after a few days in the sun so pointless sitting in that chair for 2/3 hours. Also you run the risk of a possible hair disaster in that it could turn green with the chlorine they put in the pools.

By all means if you need a trim to get rid of split ends try and do at least a week before. This will give your hair time to settle. Also everyone loves a healthy looking cut for the holiday pictures.

5. Wax/Shave

I tend to leave it till at least a week/5 days before. Wax to early and you risk regrowth whilst on holiday but then leave to late and you could get skin irrational from the combo of sun, sea and suncream. We all know our own skin so timing for waxing is different for everyone.

Although I wax, I also tend to pack a razor for that pesky little bit of hair that decides to grow a little quicker.

If your a wax virgin, shave a few days before. Again depending on your hair growth depends when this should be done. Remember to pack a few razors/shaving cream for the necessary regrowth.
Beauty Tip for wax virgins, I use conditioner on the odd occasion that I shave my legs. I find you get a closer shave and leaves your legs silky smooth

6. Nails

Either paint yourself or get them done at a nail bar/salon. No one likes the look of chipped uneven nails. Get a fresh summery colour on those nails and show them off. I'll be getting a coral colour on mine next week.
Don't forget to give your feet a good foot scrub. Remove any old polish, cut and file your toenails and make those feet pretty with colour. I like to use the same colour as my nails for my toe nails.
