High Street takes on High Fashion

by - Friday, May 30, 2014

I have recently seen an article criticising the Abbey by Abbey Clancy Abbey by Abbey Clancy 8 piece collection for Matalan and the similarities it has to Victoria Beckham's SS14 collection. The collection is said to be inspired by SS14 sports luxe trend and Scuba mini and bodycon dresses, high neck detailing and illusion blacks panels.

As a lover of Victoria Beckham and Fashion, I feel that she has found her niche. She has grown as a designer and she too has faced criticism in particular for her billowing gown but not all designs suit everyone and a designer will be well aware of this.

I feel that the new collection by Abbey Clancy should not be criticised but instead celebrated. For many years the high street have released their own versions of high fashion so what we seen on the Catwalk and in magazines such as ELLE, Vogue etc can be brought at more affordable prices.

It will in no way means affect the credibility of the Victoria Beckham brand as she is widely known as a designer worldwide, a permanent fixture in New York/London/Paris Fashion week and her pieces are often worn by celebrities. It should be celebrated that her designs are admired by many.
Victoria Beckham Cami Colour Block Stretch Dress £1,450
Silk and Wool Crepe Dress £1,595

I would love to own a few pieces from the Victoria Beckham collection but for now I am happy to visit Matalan and check out Abbey by Abbey Clancy and buy my favourite pieces.

Anyone that is a true lover of fashion will appreciate the differences in these collections and not snub the high street version.

I would love to know your opinions on high street using high fashion designs
